Since we had a short trip to drive home (400 miles) and we had nothing
really pressing to do, and I have yet to wake up later than 6:10 regardless of alarms, we
did not set the alarm or leave a wake-up call in the morning. I woke up at 10 am and Katie
woke up at 11 am, so we got a really late start today.
We drove to Nashville and went to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which was nice and then
proceeded to the Antique Auto show across the street, but ended up having an hour long
fight about going home or continuing to sightsee (the one and only of the trip). Katie
had decided to end the trip early and wanted to see her friends, I figured we were here
and wanted to spend 30 minutes seeing a few sights. No one won the fight, but we finally
left the Antique Car show (after realizing it went out of business) and headed for the
Grand Ole Opry.
When we bought the tickets, we were both still upset, until the elder lady behind the
counter asked "are you having a good time in Nashville" and we looked at each
other and started laughing. We then told her our story and went into the Opry. We watched
a short video on the history of the 100+ year old building, interesting stuff. It was
originally build by a riverboat gambler for a preacher who converted him, and made to
carry his voice, which is why it is considered one of the greatest acoustically.
We then wondered around, took pictures of Katie on stage and then went upstairs to the
balcony, where we found a filming crew doing a promo for TNN. Katie was fascinated by this
and watched for about 15 minutes, then went up to one of them asking for an autograph. She
talked to him about our trip, where we were from, skiing in Utah and stuff for about 15
minutes. I was standing back some and gave her some space, and some "tourist"
walked up and asked me if "she was going to be a senior?" I thought it was a
strange question, but answered "yes". About 5 minutes later he approved Katie
and asked her too, "Are you going to be a singer?" We laughed about that
afterwards, I guess the hearing is going in my old age. We then took some pictures and
gave the TNN guy a Herbie. Can't read his autograph, anyone know who he is?
Then we tried to drive out of Nashville, I got lost and ended up in front of the Crazy
Horse Saloon. Katie asked for the camera and for me to stop the car. She took a picture
but then decided it was time to get out and go in. I asked about going home, but she did
not care about going home anymore. We put coins in the parking meter for 30 minutes and
went in for a quick tour. There was some country singer performing, Jeff ? Anyone know?
Katie knew him, but she is still probably sleeping at home. Anyway, 3 more trips to the
parking meter
and 2 hours later, she had a signed T-shirt and was ready to finally go home. We left
Nashville about 6 pm and got home at 10:30 pm.
