Day 16 of 18
Today was pretty much a travel day, with a quick stop at the Mall of America. We
started at the South Dakota border and crossed the state line. If you have been following
us, you realize we take a photo stop at all borders to get a pix with the NB in it. Well
we crossed a border because the mile markers went from over 400 to 1, but no "Welcome
to ...." sign. A real bummer, we were not "welcome", if we weren't short on
time, I would have gone around this state to somewhere we were welcome. But we drove on,
through the territory just east of South Dakota and west of Wisconsin. We then went to the
Mall of America, where I enjoyed the Fish and park (really lame roller coaster, and they
would not allow a camera :-( and the Lego thing. Katie did some really bad shopping then
had her nails done. It was a interesting place.
Afterwards we went to Chubby Monroe's to meet Rosemary (driven woman) & her friend
Pat. We talked NB for awhile then went outside to compare accessories, etc., after about
90 minutes we headed for Chicago. Saw another yellow NB on I-494 with a after market
sunroof, who gave me a peace sign out the sunroof. We crossed the Wisconsin border, got a
picture, then turned around to get a picture of the "other state sign". To my
amazement, they had two "welcome" signs coming from the east on I-94, but none
coming from the West on I-90. I guess they really want people from the east, but not from
the west? I took pictures of both signs, then turned around and took a picture of the
Wisconsin sign again.
Went over 40, 000 miles just outside Madison, Wi.
Got to Chicago about 9:30 pm, and it was hard finding the hotel. We went to Harry Carrey's
restaurant. See everyone at the VW meet in the morning.
