Day 2 of 18

From Katie Perry (Lil' Angel)

Well this morning we left Dallas on schedule. Met w/ David Allen and Moody. And began our caravan to Roswell New Mexico via Carlsbad Caverns. Texas is bigger than I imagined. Where are the long horn cattle? And why don't y'all have queso (cheese) at your restaurants? Where are all the cowboys and the rodeos? We stopped at a Texaco, Mitch and David cleaned there windshields. then we got back on the interstate. this semi-tractor truck was in front of us and got this black stuff all over the windshield. Mitch makes the comment ,"I haven't even gone 2 miles and already there's stuff on my windshield". David responds," that was a cattle truck so chances are what hit your windshield were remains of a Cow Pies!!!" I was laughing so hard. Mitch wasn't happy. he then proceeds to wash it off using his windshield wipers. some gets off but now there's a huge streak of a cows presents on our passenger side of the windshield.

From Mitch:

Today was more about caravaning than anything else. The reaction on the road was tremendous with the two beetles. Of course it did not hurt that they were both Bright Blue, both wearing bras and David had his alien friend driving. Unfortunately it was not a good photo day and we had our first set back. The trip to Carlsbad Caverns was great, we did the Natural trail entrance and Big Room, about 2.5 hours of cave time. The sights were great, but I did not understand how to shoot pictures in low light. I am learning but have never been a camera buff before and still have allot to learn:(  We stayed on schedule until going to Roswell. About 50 miles south of Roswell we hit a hale storm and had to turn back. After careful inspection we could find no permanent damage, but we found shelter and were behind about two hours. Unfortunately the aliens in Roswell don't work past 5 PM, so we missed out on any UFO activities. Since we will be heading for the Grand Canyon in the morning we will miss out:-( David will be staying on at Roswell and planning the R2K event. I still can't believe we have gone from Roswell, GA to Roswell, NM in less than 40 hours.

On the technical side we bought fuel for the second time at the same time David did, the first time I have ever bought fuel before the warning light came on ever. We paid 1.059 in Pacos, TX, took 13.216 gallons. Got 47.19 mpg on first tank, and 42.22 on this tank.
