August 28,1999

Today started early. Becca met us in front of the hotel and led us to DriversFest 99. We drove onto Long Island about 7:30 am and then stopped along the road for the rest of the caravan of NBs. We eventually had 8 NBs on the side of Long Island Expressway and managed to all get out on the expressway together. We had a nice cruise to the beach, almost no traffic.

Then it went sour, almost as soon as we got there, Katie locked the keys in the trunk!!! About an 90 minutes later a tow truck from VW/AAA showed up and opened the door. It cost about $40 which VW/AAA we refund when I get home.

After I had my keys back, we wondered around and looked at all the cars. I was amazed at the number of NBs. This was only my 3rd show, but it seemed 50% of the show cars were NBs. The cars were great, not many of the rare older cars, pickups, vans, things (1), etc. The music was good, even for an old guy and the freebees were nice. I was disappointed that there were almost no aftermarket vendors and no swap meet:(  We split up during the day, I spent most of the day with Naomi & her husband and Katie spent most of the day with Becca & BF. Naomi was really nice but continued to harass me about the giant Herbie. I guess I will here it until R2K:(

About 3pm we left and headed for Katie's dream shop, Tiffany's, before going back to the hotel. She bought a small silver necklace and then we headed for the Trump tower and FAO toy store. I parked in a underground lot at the Trump tower, for 45 minutes it cost $22 (Howie that's $300 cdn:) Blue Eyes will stay at the hotel the rest of the weekend (@ $30 a day).

After a short rest we headed out for dinner, next to the Letterman Show. It was good after the song and dance. They ran us back to a really nice dining room (never seen on TV) and sat us down with high priced menus. We ordered 2 slices of pizza. Then they said there was a mistake and asked us to go back to the front. I really wanted to be up front anyway, but think it was their way of trying to get you to spend more than you wanted. We stopped at another corner deli and had cheese cake before calling it a night.

We are both resembling lobsters right now, I hope it is not to painful tomorrow. We got allot of sun. Way to much sun, I think it was Naomi's fault:)

Special thanks to Becca for her assistance, you were a great hostess last night and this morning:) Thanks.
