Today has been mostly a driving day. We stopped at the original HQ for the Royal
Canadian Mounted Police @ Ft. Macleod, Alberta and Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump (which got
it's name from a kid who was standing under the cliff and watching all the buffalo fall
off, when they piled up to the point he was crushed). Got to love those indian names :-)
Not much wildlife or anything exciting on the road, unfortunately they passed a speed
limit here effective June 1, so we won't get to test the maximum speed legally.
We got back into the US with only filling up with fuel once in Canada. We stopped and
bought fuel after 717.7 miles on 13.16 gallons @ 38,001 miles for 54.48 mpg. This was
mostly due to speed limit. Canada has very low speed limits, generally 55-67 mph (highest
being 110 kph). We spent much of the time in the Rocky mountains, so we averaged about 60
mph. And they say we are slow in the south, at least we drive fast:-)
Tomorrow we are on to Yellowstone which should be exciting, then onto Billings, Mt. where
Katie's stuffed puppy should be waiting for us. Please give Katie your best wishes to get
her puppy back. Saturday we will be @ the Mall of America, where we might meet some NB
folks (I have not heard from anyone there, are we having lunch???), then on to the VW show
in Villa Park, Il. (Chicago area) on Sunday (Pam & Kirk, ya'll ready to meet one dirty
bug?) I'm talking about me not the NB :-)
